GUINEA BISSAU
The Republic of Guinea Bissau is a West African Country. The majority of the population lives in degrading conditions: there aren’t roads connecting cities to the villages, the economy is poorly developed and the healthcare system doesn’t have enough facilities nor the suitable equipment. The hospital of Bissau, the “Simon Mendes”, a reference point for the whole Country, is way below the basic requirements of an European minor hospital. The rate of child death is one of the highest in the World. The main health concerns are tuberculosis, Aids and leprosy.
Nhacra is a village near Bissau, the Country capital. The small hospital of the area treats HIV positive mothers, their children and some orphans.
The centre constantly needs help to cover the cost of the food necessary to feed the patients and the management of the centre.
Need You ODV sent € 630, via Dr. Maurizio Molan, in order to buy flour, rice, milk, sugar and essential medications. In 2018 we sent, thanks to the logistic support of the association “ Accorciamo le Distanze Onlus” and “Comitato in Bianco e Nero” an ambulance. It was donated by the “Misericordia” of Acqui Terme: Mauro Bazzano completely renovated the ambulance that is now an essential tool for the community.
In June 2020 we contributed to the project “Punto Luce” and we bought an electrical generator at the cost of € 2.640.
The associations “Abala Lite” “Comitato in Bianco e Nero” manage the project that allows more than 70 families to have electricity in their homes.
The association “Abala Lite” operates in the hospital of Cumura. The hospital has two buildings. The first one has: obstetrics and gynecology department with 4 delivery rooms and an operation room, general medicine and an emergency room. The second building has the infective disease department and an operation room.
Thanks to Dr. Molan who visited the hospital several times throughout the years, we could send a defibrillator, essential goods and medications that substantially helped the centre.
In 2017 we contributed with € 1.500 for the obstetrical training, a project in collaboration with the association “Abala Lite.” The project aimed to train at the hospital of Biella, Italy, some healthcare professionals from the hospital of Cumura.
